To answer your question, there are a few points to consider:

1) First Solar's largest market is currently in Europe, Germany in particular. Germany has seen a fair share of subsidy reduction already, but First Solar's earnings are still increasing nicely.

2) The US is not a huge market for First Solar currently, but I do believe this will grow in the next 10 years, and fairly quickly, regardless of whether the Democrats or Republicans are in control. There are several rising solar companies in China, and I think the US is waking up to the fact that it's already falling behind in the renewable energy game. I expect either subsidies to increase or some form of carbon trading to come into play.

3) First Solar also has a 2 GW project pending in China. China, as with the US, will be a huge solar market. They already have their foot in the door.

I believe renewable energy is the next megatrend. Regardless of short term governmental policies, solar demand will continue to grow, and First Solar is in a good position to capitalize on this. Hope that helps.

FelixFelix Wonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16180356165291817154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9192015621439324634.post-91284426469622030612010-12-31T23:32:54.940-05:002010-12-31T23:32:54.940-05:00Hello, I'm new to your blog. However, I worry that you don't appear to include any contextual criteria. For example, first solar may be in a bad neighborhood due to the increasing availability of natural gas and in the U.S. the election of a Republican House of Representatives will reduce subsidies for the alternative energy industry in general. Perhaps I missed something.

Best,
GregAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
